Privacy Policy

What we collect

Same Story collects only the information necessary to operate the service:

  • Account information — your name and email address, provided via Clerk authentication (Google sign-in or email/password).
  • Tracking data — the shows, movies, and teams you add to your lists; which episodes you mark as watched.
  • List membership — which shared watch lists you belong to and your display name within those lists.
  • Preferences — your streaming service selections and content filter settings.
  • Same Story Live — session status, the selected group, a bounded snapshot of eligible Tonight options, structured AI proposals you review, confirmations, and limited numeric usage diagnostics.

Same Story does not store Live microphone audio or a full conversation transcript. We do not sell your personal data or store payment card details.

How we use it

  • To display your tracked shows, movies, and schedule.
  • To power shared lists — your display name is visible to other members of lists you join.
  • To apply your content preferences when showing discovery results.
  • To maintain your account and keep the service running.
  • For invited Live users, to let an AI voice propose group-specific choices, saves, and structured preferences that only become durable after an on-screen confirmation.

Third-party services

  • Clerk — handles authentication and user identity. Their privacy policy applies to account data.
  • Third-party data providers — provide TV and sports schedule metadata. We do not share your personal data with these providers.
  • OpenAI — provides the AI voice for Same Story Live. Audio is sent to OpenAI during an active conversation. Same Story does not enable input transcription or store the audio or a full transcript. OpenAI states that API abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days unless an approved data-control setting changes that treatment. See the OpenAI API data-controls documentation.
  • Cloudflare — hosts the application. Standard security and request metadata may be processed under Cloudflare's policies.
  • Prisma / Neon — stores your data in a managed PostgreSQL database in the United States.
  • Google and advertising partners — outside the dedicated Live conversation page, consent choices control optional analytics and advertising technologies.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page, which will permanently remove your tracking data, list memberships, preferences, Live sessions, and Live credits. A saved group recommendation may remain for the other group members with your identity removed. Account identity data held by Clerk can be deleted by contacting us.

Cookies

Same Story uses necessary cookies for authentication and preferences. Optional analytics and advertising technologies follow the consent controls shown on ordinary pages. The dedicated Live conversation document does not load Same Story advertising or unrelated analytics scripts.

Live access and revocation

Same Story Live is a limited invite-only beta with a short trial and manually assigned paid eligibility. Self-serve checkout is not currently offered. If group access changes, Same Story stops its own Live endpoints; without a server sideband controller, it may not be able to immediately terminate a provider conversation already open in a modified client.
